Gameplay[edit | edit source]

In each level of Tanked Up, the player controls a tank among five other tanks and has to arrive in first place at the end of each race, which lasts two laps. Once the race is won, the player can proceed to the next track. Tank moves at a constant speed and can fire small circular bullets from their turret, which can damage other tanks. Levels of the game take place across different environments with different set pieces.

Levels[edit | edit source]

Levels, designated as "tracks", total up to eight.

1: Desert Heat[edit | edit source]

A simple, introductory track that takes place in a desert with cacti and rocks.

Video

2: Rumble in the Jungle[edit | edit source]

A track that takes place in a jungle. The track has several twists and and tight turns, making it difficult to avoid a run-in with the opponents. Land mines can also be found.

Video

3: Deep Freeze[edit | edit source]

A track that takes place in a snowy mountain. The track features falling snowballs. as well as bottomless pits that instantly disqualify a tank if it falls on one.

Video

4: Dusty Debris[edit | edit source]

A track that reuses the desert setting from Desert Heat, now with several pillars in the road. A shortcut can be taken in a sand path near the start of the concrete road.

Video

5: Jungle Boogie[edit | edit source]

A track that reuses the jungle setting from Rumble in the Jungle, now with axes and statues that spit fireballs.

Video

6: In the Dock[edit | edit source]

A track that takes place in a beach near a military base. The track features several land mines as well as a battleship that will shoot at any tank that comes by it.

Video

7: Electric Shock[edit | edit source]

A track that takes place in a rocky area. The track features small passages as well as several small off-road areas. Several electric towers are also present in the track, and will shock any tank that drives off the road.

Video

8: Melting Point[edit | edit source]

A track that takes place in a volcanic area. The track is surrounded by lava, which will instantly burn and disqualify any tank that touches it.

The ending depicts a short animation situated in the middle of a model kit's parts, similar to selectable menu screens of Tanked Up, on a large rectangular piece. At the top, on piece has the words "you win" written in white text, "back" is written on a piece near the bottom, "congratulations!" near the top of the rectangular piece, and a square indentation saying "submit score".

The animation depicts the grey tank, blue tank, and brown tank spinning in circles on In the Dock.

Hazards[edit | edit source]

  • Land mines - They are placed on the tracks Rumble in the Jungle and In the Dock. They blow up on impact, slowing the Tank down.
  • Snowballs - Dangerous balls of snow. They roll down hills, and deal great damage to tanks.
  • Swinging axes - These axes are positioned above small door ways. They swing back and forth, being hard to avoid.
  • Fire shooting mouths - They frequently shoot fireballs from their mouths, dealing damage to passing Tanks.
  • Battle ship - A gray ship with three cannons. It will shoot at passing tanks.
  • Electric towers - They shock all tanks that go off the track.
  • Lava - An orange fiery liquid that flows at the bottom of the track melting point. Even touching, or even going into it, will instantly kill a tank.

Glitches[edit | edit source]

  • It is possible to trigger the completion of the second lap before completing the first. Tanked Up's lap detection system does not account for the side the player enters the zone where all tanks start from, thus allowing the player to "finish" their second lap by turning and moving in the opposite direction just before crossing the finish line on the first lap. Once the lap counter increases when moving away from the finish line, the tank can be moved in the normal direction to complete the race without taking a second trip around the track.

Music[edit | edit source]

The music for Tanked Up was composed by Lee Nicklen on August 2006[5], roughly a month before the game's release. As early as December 17th, 2011[6], the music for the game was made available for listening on Kayotix[5], Lee Nicklen's website, with the tracks being watermarked so that the listener would have to purchase the songs through Nitrome's Shop to listen to them without interruptions. The music was later made available to stream for free in Soundcloud[7] on May 29th, 2012.

The naming of the tracks may differ between Kayotix and Soundcloud.
