Gunbrick: Reloaded is a puzzle-platformer that was released on the Nintendo eShop and Steam on April 9, 2020.[1] The game is considered a Gunbrick+ and features "retro" unlockable stages as well as brand new 3D isometric ones.[2]

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Loading up the "Nitrome Pocket System" in the Steam build.

Similar to the previous Gunbrick games, the player controls a Gunbrick dude who mans a square-shaped (cube-shaped in the isometric levels) vehicle called a gunbrick with a gun on one side and a shield on the other. As the player moves along the ground, the gunbrick rotates and changes its orientation. Shooting causes the player to slide along the ground by one space away from the direction of the bullet. The player can use the shield side of the gunbrick to protect themselves from hazards and enemies, but will die if either of these hit any other side of the vehicle. The player must use these mechanics to maneuver around the levels and reach the finish charging pad.

In Gunbrick: Reloaded, the main gameplay centres around the levels of the mobile version. Players traverse through the three packs, but cloud keys are placed in some of the levels. Collecting a cloud key allows players to access additional bonus levels that can either be played in alternation with the mobile game levels or all at once via the menu select screen.

Upon beating all the bonus levels, the player unlocks the browser version, which is played within the confines of a makeshift "Nitrome Pocket System".

Levels[edit | edit source]

There are forty-eight levels in Gunbrick, which are grouped in twelve levels across four packs. Thirty-six of the levels are from the mobile version of Gunbrick and the remaining twelve levels are exclusive to Gunbrick: Reloaded.

Glitches[edit | edit source]

  • The Steam achievements are currently unobtainable even when the player fulfils all their requirements. This bug was later fixed as of April 16, 2020.
  • Minimizing the Steam build and re-focusing while in a level select screen can cause the cursor to misbehave by getting stuck regardless of which direction the player moves it. In some cases, the player can even navigate through the entire menu screen with the cursor remaining stuck in place.

Development[edit | edit source]

After the release of Bomb Chicken in 2017 on Nintendo Switch, Nitrome went over their previously-released titles to determine which ones to release an enhanced remake of, and settled on Gunbrick mobile[8].

When asked about future content updates to the game, Nitrome said it was unlikely due to the game not selling enough to justify them[9]. The Steam version did not sell well[10].
