Gameplay[edit | edit source]

All levels take place within a square panelled tunnel, all sides being two panels wide. The player character (a green glob) hops one panel at a time, with the objective of reaching the finish panels at the end of each level. The player character can hop from one wall to another when moving laterally, becoming the main "floor" to the player.

All enemies and hazards in the game act only when the player character moves.

On certain levels, there will be a counter on the middle of the tunnel that will count down with each one of the player's moves. Once it reaches its final count, certain enemies (spiked red slimes) and hazards (spike panels, fire) will be triggered, and the counter will begin counting down from the beginning.

Ending[edit | edit source]

Penguin 1.png This collapsible box contains a spoiler! Use [show] to reveal.

The ending shows a sick person with the player character coming out of their nose and sometimes coughing. It's revealed here that the player character was snot the entire time.

Ending at 1:19

Interactive objects[edit | edit source]

  • Panel residue balls - Balls that can be pushed around by the player character. They can be turned into normal panels by pushing them into hole panels.
  • Pink panels - Launch the player character to the opposite side of the tunnel.
  • Green panels - Act as teleporters between other green panels. On levels with more than two green panels, every panel has a designated pair.

Enemies[edit | edit source]

  • Crawling red enemies - Slimes that move on a set horizontal path, deadly on contact.
  • Spiked red enemies - Slimes that jump to the opposite side of the tunnel once the counter fully ticks down, they are deadly on contact.

Hazards[edit | edit source]

  • Spike panels - Panels with spikes hiding in them. Initially harmless, the spikes will be triggered each time the counter fully ticks down.
  • Fire - Walls of fire that cover an entire side of the tunnel once the counter fully ticks down. Denoted by red arrows on the middle of the screen, they can also change patterns each time they are triggered.

Development[edit | edit source]

Flue was first announced on May 13th, 2014, where Nitrome showcased the game with a short .gif of level 6, being one of the few online games that they were working on at the time. Nitrome also explained that, because of its small size, it allowed the team to "experiment with some crazy ideas"[2].

The game was released three days later, on May 16th, 2014[1].
