Platform games or platformer games refer to games of which the characters typically travel on what is usually level ground. There may be other elevated areas within the game that the player can get up on using ladders, springs or other manipulation of the environment. Since the platform genre itself is quite basic and general, it is often combined with other genres, allowing players to have a more in depth experience of gameplay.
