One Month!

Nitrome:Revise 3

Hello Santi! Recently, I've started up this project called Nitrome:Revise 3. I messaged you just in case you're interested. The project is about going through all of the pages of the Nitrome Wiki and fixing errors and adding templates (templates that go at the top of pages).

This project you would be able to help with, as it doesn't require much use of english (I don't see why you think you "don't write english well", your english is understandable, and that's what matters when writing). Excitement!

I did it all on my own!

Hi Santi! Guess what? I noticed that the background looked kind of repetitive, with all of the tiles being the same. So, I made my own .gif! Isn't that exciting? I am so proud of myself. It is a .gif of the Numbskull background (one of my favorite games) and the Nitrome Wiki in Stumped letters. Hopefully you can incorporate it somehow in the wiki! Thanks! (By the way, if you want the lightning to strike less frequently, just let me know and I'll take care of it. Isn't it cool how it looks like it's rainng too? I worked hard to get it that way!)

Hi Santi! I was looking at your message about how you couldn't upload the .gif for the Nitrome Wiki's Halloween background. I thought I should tell you there is such a thing as animated .png. Userboxes!

Hi Santi! Guess what? With my newly aquired knowledge on how to make a sig (which is still a bit of a hairy topic for me- I haven't mastered it yet), I was able to create three userboxes! Isn't that awesome? I worked really hard on them, and I think they turned out pretty nice! (And the images all came from my favorite games and my favorite movie!) So, um.... what do I do now? Do I create a page, paste in my code, and then add a Category: Userbox to it? Oh, and then add a link to the Userbox page? I am uncertain of how to do that, so could you guide me? Thanks. Oh, and feel free to use any of them on your userpage! I made them for you guys! (Well, the WALL-E one was kinda for me, but you get the point. :P) Anyway, here they are:

Favicon

Hi Santi, Halloween judging day fast approaches, and I suddenly realised we may have missed out something to complete our theme. Our Favicon. I have been wondering, would a pumpkin(already present in our logo) be a good favicon? *let's hurry!*

RE: Some completely different things, mixed together

I thought everybody used the "newest skin" function, but I'm happy I alerted you of a new skin. Yes, infoboxes for apps would be good. However, I'm not really sure what would go in an infobox for a skin. Any suggestions? Adding a yes/no section to the game infobox for if the game is a Nitrome Touchy game is a good idea, you can go ahead with it. Or I can do it.

For the Flightless forum topic, I added that after someone else added a forum topic. I wasn't sure if the forum was broken, as it was an awfully long time without any topics. Portal 2 is longer than Portal 1 (Portal 1 made me feel I was playing Test Subject Blue - Portal has only 20 levels), Portal 2 having more to explore than Portal 1.

Axiy's Heroic Attempt

Hello. I am sure quite a number of you are aware that NOBODY earned the legendary Wiki Hero badge on August 3 this year. But, there is someone who made a very brave and convincing attempt, but sadly, didn't hit the 365 days mark.

Axiy contributed daily to Nitrome Wiki continuously over a long period, from 23 August 2011 to 16 July 2012. Yes, that's right. See Axiy's Contributions. To let the gravity of that sink in, I shall let you do the math.

Yes, it's a pity. I wonder what happened.

This is the kind of feat which, once missed, one would wonder if one should attempt it again.

I am someone who believes in recognition of one's efforts, and this is why I am reaching out to you today. As part of my 2000^th edit dedication, I made a promise to myself to highlight Axiy's effort and commitment, that it does not go unnoticed.

May we gather behind Axiy, and give him the due recognition he greatly deserves.

Santi! I choose you... to make a Nitrome Wiki banner!

Hello Santi! I've noticed how you haven't edited much, have a lot of school work to do (I presume)? Anyway, Nitrome's Flightless project is very close to getting to 100%. RSK had the idea of putting up this template on the main page. It sort of serves as an advertisement for Nitrome fans to go and vote for Flightless.

Anyway, RSK, SQhi, and me and difficulties on where to put it. Eventually, I reached an agreement with SQhi that we should have a new banner on the front page titled "Promotion". We will use it for stuff like the Nitrome Wiki's birthday, Halloween, and related stuff like that - and also for the VoteFlightless template.

So, once you finish all that load of school work, could you perhaps make the banner? If you don't want to, I can always make it. Just ask me if you want me to make it instead. --Talk to NOBODY   15:38, November 16, 2012 (UTC)

Swindler 2 Logo

Hello Santi! Great job on the wiki's logo for Swindler 2! Did you know that I made one too? Yeah, about a week ago, I thought that it had been a while since Swindler 2 had been released, but the wiki's logo had not changed. So I decided to try to make one on my own! I told Nobody about it, but the logo didn't change for a week, so I was curious. And then today, the logo changed, except it wasn't mine! So I guess I should have come to you about it. Do you manage the whole "logo creation" aspect of the wiki? Anyway, so here it is.

Main Page Alignment

Welcome back Santi, did some important event keep you away for about 10 days?

Hi Santi, I'm referring to Talk:Nitrome_Wiki#Shameless_self-promoting.

At that time, I was thinking of leaving a space for the advertisement such that those with ad-blockers would just see a blank rectangular space. In that way, we could design the Main Page without considering with and without ad blockers.

Unluckily, Wikia seemed to have changed its whims, and the advertisement has been re-positioned again. I have given up on accommodating the advert at the moment. SQhi•(talk)^Diamond 08:33, December 4, 2012 (UTC)

Chistmas logo

Hi Santi! Yesterday I spent 3 hours making a Chistams logo for the Nitrome Wiki. Here it is!

You may suggest stuff to add to it, as the Jack Frost landscape, Jack Frost Blocks, and Santa Cuboy was the only thing I could think of to add to that section (I originally intended to have a wolf from Snow Drift shooting a penguin that would be setting on fire some wood, the wood and fire from RT Moscow, this action among an angry boss in Russia. I remove it as I didn't have enough room for the boss, and it seemed rather violent). Is it possible we can use this logo? Feel free to suggest changes! We don't have to have a logo up for the entire month, we could have a new one every x days. For example, on December 7th, we could replace the logo with another logo. Then, on December 16th, we could replace the logo with another one. Finally, on December 25th (or a few days prior), we could put up the Xmas logo you and Ayernam are making.

The golden Nitrome Wiki logo you made looks awesome! And yes, I found the previous logos had too small a title. I think we should make a logo having the word "Nitrome Wiki" (the golden one in the message you sent me) and have elements from previous Nitrome games, as the holidays are approaching. I agree with Nobody, the Nitrome Wiki letters look great. I think elements from the new winter game, Ice Beak, should be included in the logo. In fact, I spent a while creating a logo with the main character, and managed to make an image of the bird shooting the N with a massive clump of snow! :D Here it is:

Felize Navidad!

Felize Navidad Santi! Merry Christmas! I woke up this morning to go on the Nitrome Wiki. Later, I noticed how you enabled snow. Although it looks nice and is festive, I've noticed how my computer has slowed down. For example, when I scroll up, I have to wait a second for the action to be carried out.

Also, seeing as users here may use slower computer's than mines, I think it would be good to disable the snow. Although nice, it may serve as a bother for users who have slow computers. --Talk to NOBODY   16:42, December 25, 2012 (UTC)

Well, I remember reading something on Community Central where someones CPU usage (or something along those lines) spiked because of the use of snow. Since it also happened to some other people, I'm not sure if we should use the snow. However, if it only happens to a small amount of people, I'm okay with using the snow. Hello Santi! Okay, so I decided to tell you something that will probably surprise you and probably make you wonder why I did it. Remember Satasha? Well I did something the Satasha did and I am Grammar Cat. Because I made two mistakes which were editing in the wrong account on the Neutronized and Nitrome wiki, I decided to tell you. Why did I do it? For some strange reason I wanted to have a account not connected to the Nitrome Wiki or Grammar Cat. Pretty strange, right?

Thank you for making a logo. It looks really nice. I probably will have to change it a bit but I like the way the words are placed and I could probably make something that looks like it. Wikia Spotlight

Some time ago, I suggested getting the wiki ready for a wikia spotlight request. At the time, we really weren't quite eligible. However, I really think that Nitrome Wiki is almost ready. I think we should finish Revise 3, fix up the main page, do a double-check, and then have a forum discussion for the best way of writing the request that makes the wiki look good. Then, have you or NOBODY post it. Here are the full list of suggested requirements, which you posted on my talk a long time ago:

    The requester should be either an active admin, or link to a discussion with an active admin of the wiki and agreeing to the spotlight. --- If you or NOBODY (as b-crats) post it, then not a problem.

   The wiki should have at least 200 content pages, not counting stubs. Very short articles (listed at Special:Shortpages) and articles marked with a stub template should make up no more than 1/5th of all pages on the wiki. --- Not a problem. Most of our short pages are disambigs anyway (which don't really count). Although we should probably decrease our stubs some. But that shouldn't take long.

   The main page of the wiki should have at least one picture, and clear links to the most important content. It should not be sysop-protected for editing unless there is a strong history of vandalism. --- Not a problem. We should do a double-check on it anyway.

   The wiki should have a clear category structure to help readers navigate around the site. Every content page should be in a category (Special:UncategorizedPages should be empty).---I checked Special:UncategorizedPages. It's empty but for 2 pages, neither of which are mainspace.

   The wiki should not be in the middle of choosing new admins, or any other upheavals; it should be a stable, friendly place. --- Not a problem.

   The wiki should be using the Wikia welcome tool, signed by admins -- (MediaWiki:Welcome-user should say @latest, @sysop or the name of an admin.) ---As far as I know, we do this, and have for some time.

   The wiki should have a custom message in the Community Center on Recent Wiki Activity. (MediaWiki:Community-corner) --- We do.

Twitter accounts would be marvelous! Also, on Facebook, we could draw in a lot of Spanish Facebook users by translating posts into Spanish. For example, when Nitrome releases a new blog post, you could make a Spanish post on the English Nitrome Wiki Facebook page, with the translated post, then kind of explain what is going to happen.

I found that if you also advertise the Spanish Nitrome Wiki in those Spanish posts, then you could drawn in a lot of Spanish Facebook users, as where else can they get translated Nitrome Blog posts? Furthermore, the Spanish Nitrome Wiki may interest them.

Yes, I am temporarily inactive because I have been mostly doing other stuff lately. I really got into Minecraft because my friend made a server, and so me and a bunch of my friends have been playing Minecraft together. Also, I haven't been on the wikis in a while because I guess I got kind of bored after editing semi-constantly for so long. Anyway, I plan to come back after a while of break to continue helping with the wiki.

Hi Santi! I have the Nitrome Wiki Facebook page bookmarked, and while visiting it today, I noticed how it said "2 people talking about this". What does that mean? Does the Nitrome Wiki Facebook page have some sort of forum? Because I remember a long time ago visiting the Nitrome Facebook page and there was some sort of Forum thing.

Heading 5

Hi Santi! Remember where you did some action in the MediaWiki:Wikia.css where you made it so that level 4 headings were bolded? Is it possible for you to do the same with level 5 headings?

Well, bolded level 5 headings are the same as just bolded text. However, the only reason I wanted bolded level 5 text is so that people could find it on the Table of Contents. RE:Nitrome Universe

At first, Nitrome Universe started off as a Nitrome Blog by me. The entire purpose of Nitrome Universe was not as a blog that I would enjoy writing about, but as an ad for the Nitrome Wiki. If I wanted a Nitrome Blog, I would come here, as that is where the biggest Nitrome community is.

As time went on, I found it time consuming and incredibly annoying to update constantly, as the time spent was really wasted - here I was writing for a small audience just to advertize the Nitrome Wiki. At that time, I had forced myself to write stuff for the blog, and it got rather annoying to write for something that you know gets less views than the Nitrome Wiki and is only an ad.

So, I just forgot about it. Another thing I had to do was constantly update, or else I wouldn't stay on the google rankings. So to sum it all up, Nitrome Universe was not a blog for writing about Nitrome, it was an ad for the Nitrome Wiki. Same with my Youtube account, I wouldn't have started it up if I couldn't advertize the Nitrome Wiki.

However, my Youtube account later became helpful in providing video walkthroughs for the Nitrome Wiki. If I get enough people urging me to do Nitrome Universe here, I may do it, since, there is a considerably larger amount of Nitrome fans here. --Talk to NOBODY   13:44, April 17, 2013 (UTC)

Hi Santi, I noticed that you made an edit to this Main Page template, shortening the list of featured articles.

While I agree that the list is getting somewhat long, I don't agree with the exclusion of the featured articles at the back. That is because the first article in the list is the earliest and the last is the latest. The latest featured articles should have priority.

Also, I'm also don't quite agree with linking to the archives. The archives can include pages nominated which fail to be featured. Maybe we can have an expanding box instead.

Right now I feel that it may add some interesting detail to have a double line on the left of the template, similar to what you did for the customised template. Also, maybe we can have rounded corners at the right of the template. Should be enough to make the template visually interesting in a minimalist way, and still stand out. Hello people, this is SQhi. As we know at the start of July anonymous editing was blocked on Nitrome Wiki network. The purpose of this discussion is to bring the active and prominent users together to inform our readers and followers of this drastic change.

I am sending this message to NOBODY, Santi, Ayernam, Emite, Takeshi and NTPYTO. If you feel that anyone else should be brought into the discussion, please let me know (talk page).

The first three steps I am proposing are as follows.

1. Through Wikinews. I suggest this entry.

• 21 July - It is now necessary to have a Nitrome Wiki account to edit and comment on Nitrome Wiki and its sister wikis. This is due to changes in US law which does not allow our website to track IP addresses of children. If you would like to gain access to editing, commenting and more, please sign up for an account. You do need to be thirteen or older. official press release

2. Through banner on our Main Page (and/or through SiteNotice)

Dear readers, you now need to sign up for a Wikia account to edit and comment on Nitrome Wiki and its sister wikis. Changes to US law in which our website is hosted prevents us from tracking anonymous contributions from children using IP addresses. Nitrome Wiki congratulates Nitrome on their official launch of Nitrome Profiles.

• Since 1 July 2013, it is now necessary for all editors and blog commenters on Nitrome Wiki and its sister wikis(Fan Fiction Wiki and Pixel Love Wiki) to have a valid Wikia account.

Revision to COPPA
A recent revision to Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) (http://www.ftc.gov/os/fedreg/2013/01/130117coppa.pdf) which came into effect 1 July 2013 does not allows US-based websites from collection of geolocation information from children, such as Internet Protocol addresses (IP). Nitrome Wiki is hosted on a US server and hence has to comply with US laws.

MediaWiki's use of IP
MediaWiki tracks all anonymous contributions through the IP which they are posted from. IP is the internet addresses of your gateway to the Internet. This is an important tool for us as it helps us better identify users, and provides us the means to tackle disruptive acts such spamming, vandalism and uncivil behaviour.

IP of registered users are also recorded, though as such users can be easily identified by their username, this IP information is strictly archived. This information will only be accessed by the webmaster only for the investigation of the most severe of disciplinary offences such as sockpuppetry or vote-rigging, which can be carried out through the abuse of multiple accounts.

Risk of tracking through IP
IP is also a form of geolocation information. Through tools such as whatismyIP, an individual can find out the geographical location of a child's internet access point, and hence approximate the location of the child in the world. The safety of the child can be further jeopardised if the child reveals personal information.

Blocking of anonymous editing
If we were to allow collection of IP information, our webmaster would have to receive parental consent, which would be impractical to do so. We apologise for the inconvenience caused to all, especially to our young readers who are most affected.

Nitrome Wiki recommends that contributors sign up for an account as long as they are no longer children
Since there are no restrictions prohibiting the collection of IP from anyone aged 13 and above, anyone above the age of 13 can sign up for an account for free. You only need an email address and your birthday (to verify your age). Your generous contributions will be fully credited to you on the edit history of each page, ascribed to your member-name. You will also gain access to all the privileges of a member, such as the chatroom, your own profile and talk page, ability to create blogs and upload photos and more.

It is really really helpful, as not only are you advertizing the Nitrome Wiki on Facebook, but also working on a mobile design. Plus, with the large amount of Android users, it will make the wiki look considerably better, as by that time we will have all pages configured for mobile viewing and easy access. Hi Santi! Pjray02 implied that you said he couldn't become an admin. However, since I can't find any record of you saying this on the wiki, I presume you said this in the chat. RFAs

Hi Santi, yes I am aware.

I don't really agree with closing Takeshi's request as cancelled and moving it to the previous requests section as I've seen you've done. I'll explain.

Thus far when we cancel an RFA and move it to the previous requests section, it is because the user did not fulfill the requirements, that the request is invalid or that the member cancelled the nomination.

I wouldn't say the same should be done for the RFAs which Bluefire cancelled. Bluefire closed NTPYTO's, AD24E's and Takeshi's RFA. From what I remember of the case, their RFAs were closed to make way for your promotion to a bureaucrat. I can't remember this very well, but it has something to do with NOBODY being the sole bureaucrat and also of cases where NOBODY is not in a good position to close an RFA objectively. So yep, those RFAs were cancelled under extraordinary circumstances.

So yep, these RFAs were then left hanging there, collecting dust in the current requests section.

And Nitrome Wiki will have to decide what to do with the three affected RFAs. Especially so when NTPYTO and Takeshi have already gained the necessary community backing for adminship. SQhi•(talk)^{Wiki Planner} 07:09, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

I'll say let's move Takeshi64 - 2 back to current requests for now, as his RFA should deserve the same equal treatment as AD24E's and NTPYTO's RFA. And we'll need to bring this up.

additional information on nominators

Ayernam was nominated by NOBODY and it was reflected on the page. Should we also have SQhi's and Takeshi's nominators listed on the page as well. That is, when a member is not self-nominated but nominated by another. (Anyway NOBODY was the first to list his name as nominator thus far.) Would be good to have consistency on this important page. Problem with logos

Good job finishing your homework faster! In the case you can't make a logo for October, you can just wait until Nitrome releases a game. It doesn't look like Nitrome will release a game on Monday. Also, usually Nitrome puts up a private demo/beta version of the game up before its release, and I can't seem to find Test Subject Arena 2 or Cheese Dreams New Moon beta/demo pages, and usually they put up a beta/demo page days, months, or weeks before a game's release. --Talk to NOBODY   13:23, September 28, 2013 (UTC)

What screenshots do you need? Also, I don't know why, but I'm having the same problem as you, but for some reason I am able to play the game. The button for / becomes the button for ? if I hold SHIFT (that's what it's called) and then press /. Yet, during the game, pressing / to fire still works. Is it possible to change your computer's keyboard to another language? Avatar Design

Thanks a lot for making the template like it now is. I've made a little tweak to it yesterday by adding min-height:300px;. This way the boxes will be the same, and there will be less gaps. But once again, I couldn't have done it like this. Awesome work!   Sim533

Nitrome Christmas story

There are already so many years since I contributed msyelf to the first Nitrome x-mas story that gained so much popularity? 

I just re-read it,as well as a few others,getting some nostalgia.

Should we make a 3rd one,dirrectly on the Nitrome wiki (its a story for Nitrome wiki not NFF wiki).Maybe just us,and a few old users like TNY,Nobody,TCG,Axiy,Lilo,and obviosly,we can not exclude the new contribuitors that would love! to join our wikis xmas tradition!

Your Nitrome blog post submission

Hi Santi! The article you wrote for the Nitrome blog, I sent it to Mat. However, it won't be used, and there are a few reasons why. What was written was really just a link to the Avatars article on the Nitrome Wiki. Now, although this is the reason for the article not being used, Mat also highlighted that if Nitrome Wiki blog posts are written so that they push the reader straight through to something else, people likely will not read the Nitrome Wiki blog posts.

Mat said "Get people to invest in an article you guys write and then when you have sparked their interest in what else the wiki has to offer they will follow the link through or search you out." Basically, a post for the Nitrome blog should contain something that is worth reading rather than a link to something else that is worth reading.

If you are confused about anything, feel free to send me a message. Hello! Mat said the post was okay, however, he suggested some things that would make the post more interesting, these being:

• You should point out how it was found out that there would be water levels.
• You could expand a little on things.
• You could point out content that you have found from "scraps of evidence" from comments *Speculation would be good, such as:
  • Speculating about what other good platforms would be good for Flightless.
  • Speculation about a release outside of Steam
  • Speculation about Flightless going to mobile, and why it would be a good idea or not

Headings against headings

Do you think it could work if we put the current image headings on the main page against the heading templates (Template:HeadingA and Template:HeadingB)? These heading templates are supposed to stretch the entire width of the column, regardless of its width, so they would create a fuller heading instead of leaving large grey space. With a few colour changes, we could probably get the colours of the heading templates to match that of the images. You could do that; I was just thinking of just putting the image directly on the template, sort of like what I did on the sandbox. Using just letters could work, too. Then we wouldn't have to use top and bottom borders immediately.   Random-storykeeper 19:53, January 12, 2014 (UTC)
