Enemies (Leap Day series)
Enemies in Leap Day and Super Leap Day harm the contestants on contact, sending them back to their most recently activated checkpoint. Most enemies can be killed by jumping on their heads, but they will all respawn if the player dies and restarts from a checkpoint. They also will respawn at the exact place they start the movement. Most of them follow a set pattern, moving from left to right like the player.
On Leap Day's initial launch, the game had a set of enemies that could appear in any of the themes. Later additions are exclusive to one or two themes.
Note: Unless otherwise stated, information on this article only applies to Leap Day.

Behaviour | When this enemy dies, it leaves behind its helmet. The helmet moves back and forth at a fast speed and will fall off ledges if it goes towards one, killing the player if they are directly in its way. The helmet is removed if the player jumps on top of it.
In Leap Day, if Scrambled or Hard Boiled kill a soldier, it does not leave behind its helmet. In Super Leap Day, soldiers act the same as in Leap Day but in this game they will stab forward if they are facing and near the player. Unlike in the previous game, helmets are able to kill other soldiers. Yolk pets will kill soldiers in one hit. The soldier's helmet also appears on the icon for Rainy Ruins and on curved stone blocks.

Behaviour | Sewer Spitters[12] appear in both games. In Leap Day will hide under a manhole which can be walked over. After a few seconds, the enemy will rise from its manhole and shoot a projectile diagonally upwards facing the direction of the player. The Sewer Spitter will then retreat back under its manhole, and the projectile will bounce on each surface it hits until it eventually dissipates. In Super Leap Day this enemy retains most of its behaviour from Leap Day, with a few changes. In this game it resides in underground pipes and can be killed if the player hits it from behind while travelling through a pipe. Another difference is that the projectile is shot straight in front of the enemy without regard for the player and dissipates upon hitting a wall. Yolk helpers will kill them. Sewer Spitters can be killed by their own projectile if it somehow hits them.

Super Leap Day[edit | edit source]
Spiders[edit | edit source]
Spiders are enemies introduced in Super Leap Day. They appear as a spider with a red body, small purple legs, and wearing a tribal skull mask. This mask has black holes for eyes and also has fits the spider's jaws. Spiders move up and down bamboo until the player grabs on to the bamboo, whereupon they will become stationary and create a circle of electrcity around themselves that will kill the player on contact. They will cease doing this after a few seconds once the player leaves the bamboo.
Chomp monsters[edit | edit source]
Chomp monsters are can be found in any theme and first appeared on the August 5, 2021 level. They appear as a black creature-like head with white eyes and two small conic feet. Their mouth has teeth and a tongue inside. These enemies walk horizontally and have two attacks: a running attack where they will run forward with their mouth open, which can be executed randomly or when the player is in front of them, and a swipe attack where they will try to bite the player character if it passes right in front of them. They can be killed by jumping on them and drop a silver coin. Yolk helpers will kill them.
Helmet beetles[edit | edit source]
Helmet beetles are encountered in the Rainy Ruins theme and first appeared in the August 5, 2021 level. They have a spherical abdomen that has two small wings, four legs, and a head covered by a horn-shaped mask with two eyes on each side. Their abdomen is purple with a pink stripe down the middle and has a spike that only appears when they attack. These enemies can fly horizontally and climb up bamboo. Their main attack is to descend quickly from the top of bamboo with their stinger exposed, after which they may also quickly climb back up to the top.
Mimics[edit | edit source]
Mimics can be found in any theme and first appeared on the August 11, 2021 level. They appear as a normal treasure chests with teeth inside the chest. Mimics initially appear as treasure chests, but when jumped on will open and reveal they have teeth and then become active. Mimics will follow Yolk and move via short hops. When the player is not in front of them, they will suddenly notice, via a white exclamation mark, and turn around and continue following the player. They will release a power-up or 2-3 gold coins when initially hit and when killed. Yolk pets stun them instead of killing them.
Pylon mimics[edit | edit source]
Pylon mimics are encountered in Capital Highway and appear as a red pylon with grey stubby feet and a gap between the red and white part of the cone that has two white eyes. Pylon mimics initially appear like the normal pylons that can be knocked around, but when the player is moderately nearby or is very close to one, they will jump up and reveal themselves to be pylon mimics and will dash in one direction. If they hit a wall, they will become stunned but will very soon recover and then dash in the opposite direction. When the player is some distance away, pylon mimics will stop dashing and just walk around. They cannot be killed, but can be killed by spider robots in their alert form.
Masked beasts[edit | edit source]
Masked beasts are found in Rainy Ruins and have a round brown furry body, four small stubby legs, and wear a bone mask fashioned after a Trunky. These enemies walk horizontally and will throw a bone at the player when the player is near and is seen by a beast. This bone will bounce of walls and can be destroyed by being jumped on. The enemy can be killed by being jumped on.
Spider robots[edit | edit source]
Spider robots are found in Capital Highway and first appeared on the August 21, 2021 level. Spider robots have two phases: a patrol phase and an alert phase. In their patrol phase, spider robots walk horizontally. If they detect that a nearby contestant is above or below them, spider robots will transition into their alert phase, where they will turn into a spinning top and bounce horizontally back and forth on their platform. They will transition back to their patrol phase after some time has passed or a contestant jumps on them.
While spinning in their alert form, bumped silver blocks will not kill them but instead bounce them upward. In their alert phase, spider robots can kill pylon mimics.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- In the March 30th, 2015 preview for Leap Day, early versions of three enemies are seen:
- Spring heads and spike heads have a slightly different colour pattern and design. The spike head also has a bigger spike and the spring head has a taller spring than with the final version.
- The small blob was from an early idea where the regular sized blob when jumped on would split into tinier blobs[3]. This feature is now seen in the Toxic Sewer levels.
- In Leap Day, some enemies can be seen in the audience at the start of each level.
- In Leap Day, certain enemies just fall off the screen when killed and do not have an unique death sprite. This is shared by the Mud monster, spring head, lightbulbs (active and inactive), Toxic Sludge, and mud crawler.
