The Brash Bracers armour causes Shovel Knight's Shovel Slashes to inflict 4 HP of damage (equivalent to 2 health bubbles against bosses) instead of 1. This increased damage only applies to enemies and bosses and does not work on anything else that takes multiple Shovel Slashes to interact with. The downside of this armour is that if Shovel Knight is damaged in a stage, his armour will transition into a broken state where his Shovel Blade inflicts normal damage and his max health is halved until he starts the next stage, whereupon he will regain the unbroken armour back.

When Brash Bracers is immediately broken, Shovel Knight will be granted temporary invincibility to spikes for a few seconds. Additionally, pets will not sustain any damage from having Brash Bracers broken. Boss stages are not counted as another stage, so if Brash Bracers is broken in Stage III of a world it will not be regained until starting Stage I of the next world.

Brash Bracers in its unbroken state is able to survive being hit by the Omega Saw. Reviving via the Fenix Feather will not restore Brash Bracers to its unbroken state and will not modify the total health bubbles of Shovel Knight's currently-halved health.

The following game entities that inflict damage do not cause Brash Bracers to break:

The following game entities are affected differently by the increased damage from the Shovel Blade.

  • While Charflounders have 2 HP, they still require two hits to kill
  • Book platforms are unaffected by the increased Shovel Blade damage as they are not considered enemies.
